In about two weeks from the time I publish this, I'll be heading down to Southwest Florida to spend some good, quality time with my grandfather. We'll spend a lot of it outdoors. Besides, we've got a min-golf score to settle (who can end in a tie?). The only downside is that by the time I get out there, the mosquitoes will start greeting us. And I hate always having to put on the bug spray and time it just right so I don't sweat it off.
Bug Bands look like the Lance Armstrong LIVESTRONG bracelets (been wearing mine 8 years now!), but instead of reminding people about lukemia / lymphoma, they create a spherical bug shield around them. These types of products have been popping up recently. They're intruiging to me. Put them on with my running shoes, patella straps and headphones. I can see it being a part of my ritual. You can put it on your wrist, belt loop, shoe laces, back of your hat, stroller, lawn mower, golf cart, tents, bikes...
The active ingredient in Bug Bands is Geraniol. Geraniol has been found in studies by the University of Florida to be a safe, natural, effective alternative to DEET. Odd site note: it is also one of the additives used in cigarette flavoring. ( Like I said, Odd . And irrelevant.)
Claims - Bug Band
According to BugBand.com the bracelets are supposed to do the following,:
- No Sprays
- No Mess
- 100% DEET Free
- 100% Natural
- Proven to Repel Mosquitoes
- Repels Up to 120 Hours
- Protective Band to Lock in Scent When Not Active
There is quite the grass roots marketing campaign going for it. Bug Band has developed strategic partnerships with the following:
And has a litney of media outlets singing their praises.

There isn't much negative out there but, speaking of Southwest Florida, Bug Band was tested b y WBBH, Channel 2 NBC out of Cape Coral / Fort Myers / Naples... and they said that though it was effective, they found it worked best in areas closet to the band while areas farther away were more susceptible to mosquito bites. So, I'm thinking 1 on my wrist and one on my shoes.
We'd love to hear what you think!

Before I'd ever use a product like Dr. Ho's Back Belt, I would consult my chiropractor - who I haven't seen in awhile. What we found is that most people wouldn't take such an approach...
I would swear that the NutriBullet is just a Magic Bullet with a different plastic skin and fonts & iconography. I assume that if I want to make veggie smoothies I could just use a Magic Bullet, but apparently I can't. Or something like that. I'm still looking.
This is one of those times where my grandfather bought something he wanted to see on TV and it was a great idea. I went into the garage and click the switch when I realized the light-bulb didn't look like an ordinary light-bulb.
With so many acne products out and about, on television, on the shelves, at the impulse counter, next to the Redbox and vending machines...It's enough to make one wonder as to why the competition is so fierce. Is it because no single product works well enough? Or is it because people have a hard time telling which product works for them. Maybe Neutrogena is onto something with the SkinID.
Awesome Auger - Was It PitchMen's Billy Mays that Made it Awesome? Or was it Awesome Auger inventor Tommie Matasko and his inspiring story that lead to the Auger's invention? Please visit the As Seen on TV Life Summary Review and find out.
Before Vince came out with his copycat ShamWOW and his Time/Life operator headphones, there was a super-absorbent cloth that took care of the chills and spills your clumsy day created. And all you needed to know was that Billy Mays thought it was awesome.
